This Summary sets out the key points discussed at the April 16, 2025 meeting.

General items

  • The committee discussed refunds of pension contributions where members are over age 71 and agreed to continue to monitor how FSRA’s guidance works in practice and revisit the issue later this year.
  • The committee discussed the legislative discharge of annuity purchases for MEPPs and is interested in a smaller working group to discuss the issue with FSRA and the Ministry of Finance.

Target benefit supervisory framework

  • FSRA discussed the target benefit supervisory framework implementation with the committee. The guidance will be broadly consulted on following the review by the MEPP committee.

Defined contribution MEPP data analysis

  • FSRA showed the committee early analysis it is doing of Annual Information Return defined contribution plan data and got feedback.

Defined benefit solvency report

  • FSRA updated the committee that the quarterly defined benefit solvency report would be issued shortly, and that it shows a healthy funded status of pension plans as of the end of 2024.

Communication & engagement update

  • Members were given an update on the success of the third annual Pension Awareness Day on February 20, 2025. The campaign received national exposure, and planning is upcoming for next year’s Pension Awareness Day.

Next meeting

The next meeting of the Committee is scheduled for Summer 2025.
