FSRA has introduced new Continuing Education (CE) requirements for all mortgage agents and brokers to help raise professionalism in the mortgage brokering industry.

The requirements have two mandatory components: Conduct CE and Technical Knowledge/Professional Development (“Professional CE”).

All mortgage agents and brokers must meet the new requirements by March 31, 2026. If you don’t, FSRA will not renew your licence.

Two mandatory components

Conduct CE

Conduct CE includes courses from FSRA-accredited providers. FSRA establishes the key learning outcomes, and the courses help mortgage professionals learn about ethical practices, regulatory compliance and professional conduct.

You must complete:

  • 5 hours for agents (levels 1 & 2)
  • 7 hours for brokers (including principal brokers)

For the current (2024-2026) licensing cycle, Conduct CE courses are available from the following FSRA-accredited providers:

Professional CE

Agents and brokers must complete 10 hours of Professional CE.

Professional CE relates to the technical aspects of mortgage brokering, including (but not limited to):

  • Financing fundamentals
  • Principles of mortgage brokering
  • Legal, legislative and regulatory matters

What you need to do

  • Review the new CE requirements for level 1 agents, level 2 agents, brokers and principal brokers.
  • Complete both the Conduct and Professional CE requirements by March 31, 2026. Note: the CE cycle began on April 1, 2024 – any qualifying Professional CE completed since that time counts towards the requirements.
  • Apply a “Common Sense” Approach: FSRA has established the topics and subject areas that qualify for Professional CE. Mortgage professionals can use this information to determine if the content or activity meets FSRA’s requirements. You’ll also need to keep appropriate documentation, including proof of registration/attendance and descriptions of the course material.
  • Maintain documentation: once you have reported your Professional CE, you must keep your records of completion for four years. For example, after you complete your Professional CE and report it with your March 31st, 2026 renewal, you must maintain those records until March 31st, 2030. Licence holders are responsible for keeping appropriate documentation to track their CE activities, including certificates or similar documents verifying attendance or successful completion.
