Strengthening protection for auto accident victims in Ontario

To further protect accident victims and promote trust in Ontario’s auto insurance system, FSRA conducted proactive supervision of health service providers (HSPs) and is releasing the results of its reviews.

FSRA’s supervision of HSPs focuses on the billing and business practices for auto insurance claims. This is separate from the health care standards of practice overseen by health regulatory colleges.

The 2024-26 HSP Compliance Report found non-compliance with certain regulatory requirements among HSPs in the province.

FSRA's regulatory response varied by case, with some HSPs receiving warning letters and others entering into voluntary undertakings.

Non-compliance increases the risk of fraud. FSRA expects HSPs to comply with regulatory requirements, and insurers to effectively manage their relationships with HSPs, especially those participating in preferred provider networks, in support of fair consumer outcomes.

Based on the findings, FSRA is extending the 2024-26 HSP Supervision Plan through to March 2027. FSRA will continue to take action in cases of consumer harm or non-compliance.
