The Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA) is launching a consultation on a proposed multi-year plan to strengthen protection of vulnerable consumers in its regulated sectors.
“At FSRA, we’re committed to removing barriers and challenges for vulnerable consumers and providing education and protection to help them make more informed decisions,” said Stuart Wilkinson, Chief Consumer Officer. “We know that financial services can be tough to figure out and it can be even worse for vulnerable consumers. Through listening, learning and adopting new approaches, we can improve the lives of vulnerable people right across the province.”
With evidence that vulnerable consumers experience poorer outcomes and may experience more issues with product accessibility, the outcome of the proposed approach is to close the gap between the experiences of vulnerable and non-vulnerable consumers in Ontario’ s financial services sector.
Getting input from our stakeholders is an essential part of FSRA’s commitment to transparency and accountability. The consultation period is now open and will close on March 8, 2024.
