General items

  • The committee discussed comparisons between 401ks in the United States and DC pension plans in Canada, and opportunities for DC plan sponsorship in Ontario.
  • FSRA and the committee discussed risk management for small DC plans in relation to the recent CAPSA risk management guideline.

DC AIR data for sector overview

  • FSRA updated the committee on the draft report which uses AIR data for DC Plans. Discussion centred around default fund types and comparisons to other Canadian jurisdictions.

DC plan portability

  • The committee and FSRA discussed issues around DC portability where there are original and successor plans the member has moved between.

Retroactive adverse amendments

  • The committee was given a preview of the work FSRA is doing on reporting decisions made around retroactive adverse amendments. The committee appreciated FSRA's openness.

Guidance

  • FSRA updated the committee on its plans to review the DC auto features guidance in this coming fiscal year. FSRA is not anticipating an update to the guidance will be necessary.

Communications & Engagement update

  • Members were given an update on the success of the third annual Pension Awareness Day on February 20, 2025. The campaign received national exposure, and planning is upcoming for next year’s Pension Awareness Day.

Next meeting

The next meeting of the Committee is scheduled for Summer 2025.
