Mortgage professionals play a vital role in helping Ontario’s families successfully navigate the biggest financial decision of their lives: buying a home.
What you say matters. Your honest and credible advice is essential—whether you’re supporting first-time buyers, helping clients renew their mortgages, or advising on mortgage investments. Consumers expect and deserve to be guided by professionals who are properly licensed, qualified and follow the rules.
At FSRA, we see the commitment you bring to your work. We recognize that the vast majority of the sector is dedicated to serving clients in good faith, and we value your contributions to a well-functioning, and trusted sector.
As a regulator, we also help ensure that mortgage professionals continue to adhere to high standards of business conduct. This includes performing all necessary due diligence for your clients and completing documentation accurately and thoroughly.
We know this is challenging work at the best of times. And in today’s climate of significant economic uncertainty and volatility, it's more important than ever to do it right.
Regrettably, a small number of people choose to break the rules through dishonest behavior or by being careless. This puts consumers at risk and tarnishes the reputation of the sector
Let’s be clear: unethical behavior puts your job and reputation at risk. We have the tools to detect and respond to misconduct. If someone doesn’t follow the rules, we will take appropriate disciplinary action.
Further, the courts have backed up our recent enforcement action to revoke an individual’s mortgage agent licence and refuse to issue them another licence. In this case, the individual lost their licence because they were found to have lied on their licensing applications with FSRA.
We strongly encourage everyone to take the time to do things properly. Being honest and operating with integrity is paramount. It’s not only the right thing to do—it’s your legal duty.
