Providing Ontario consumers with an opportunity to shape financial services regulation
For the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA), protecting consumers is at the heart of everything we do.
To protect consumers, FSRA first needs to understand them. That’s why FSRA is committed to listening to Ontarians through consumer research, consultations, and engagement. By capturing a broad range of perspectives, we ensure our policies and initiatives reflect the real needs and experiences of the people we serve.
Today, FSRA is releasing the results of its latest cross-sectoral consumer survey.
Conducted every two years, this survey allows us to better understand the challenges and issues some consumers face when interacting with the financial services sectors we regulate. The findings will inform FSRA’s regulatory and supervisory efforts to help improve outcomes across the province.
In addition to publishing the survey results, FSRA is announcing the completion of two key consumer protection initiatives:
- We are releasing FSRA’s Vulnerability Framework, developed after considering feedback from a 2024 consultation about strengthening protection of vulnerable consumers. The Framework defines vulnerable consumers and outlines the actions FSRA will undertake to strengthen protection of vulnerable consumers, including increasing our outreach with representatives of vulnerable communities and expanding education for consumers regarding their rights and protections.
- FSRA has completed a review of its Fair Treatment of Customers in Insurance Guidance. We will continue to adopt this Approach to supervising the conduct of insurers and other entities, upholding fair treatment of all customers.
