FSRA urges Ontarians to prioritize retirement planning
To help raise awareness of the importance of saving for retirement, the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA) is launching its second annual Pension Awareness Day consumer education campaign. Pension Awareness Day will be on Thursday February 15th this year.
The campaign will empower pension plan members to:
- maximize your contributions, especially if they’re matched by your employer
- understand what your workplace pension benefits are
- know what to ask your employer about your pension or retirement savings options
A recent poll commissioned by FSRA found that 81% of respondents are more concerned about paying for basic necessities like groceries than saving for retirement, with 44% citing the high cost of living as a barrier to retirement savings. FSRA emphasizes the need for increased awareness, education, and early planning for a more secure financial future. The poll, conducted by Forum Research in December 2023, surveyed 1,000 Ontario residents aged 18 and older.
