March 28 deadline nears for Financial Planner title users without FSRA-approved credentials

The Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA) is reminding individuals using the Financial Planner title (or similar) to review Ontario’s title protection framework requirements and ensure they have an approved credential. The transition period under Ontario’s title protection framework ends on March 28, 2026.

Individuals who do not hold an approved credential from a FSRA-approved credentialing body by the deadline will no longer be permitted to use the Financial Planner title in Ontario.

The transition period only applies to those who were using the Financial Planner title on or before January 1, 2020.

Those who continue to use the title without an approved credential may be subject to enforcement action under the Financial Professionals Title Protection Act, 2019.

FSRA strongly encourages anyone currently using the Financial Planner title to confirm whether their credential is approved and, if not, take necessary steps to obtain an approved credential before March 28, 2026.
