The Government of Ontario has appointed Lawrence (Larry) E. Ritchie, ICD.D, as a member of the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario’s (FSRA) Board of Directors, effective January 15, 2026. The appointment was made on the recommendation of Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy.

Mr. Ritchie brings more than 30 years of legal, regulatory, governance, and capital markets experience to the FSRA Board. A partner at Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP, he chairs the firm’s national, cross‑disciplinary Risk Management and Crisis Response practice and co‑leads its Securities Regulatory Enforcement and Broker‑Dealer Litigation practice.

Throughout his extensive career, Mr. Ritchie has served on several senior management committees at Osler, including its governing Partnership Board. He also took a leave from private practice to serve as Vice Chair of the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC), where he participated on the Board of Directors, the Executive Management Committee, and the Adjudicative Committee, and adjudicated regulatory matters as a tribunal member. Mr. Ritchie returned to Osler to resume his law practice in 2014.

“FSRA’s Board of Directors is pleased to welcome Mr. Ritchie back to the organization. Larry brings exceptional regulatory, governance, and capital markets expertise, and his demonstrated commitment to the public interest will further strengthen the Board’s oversight at a pivotal time for financial services regulation in Ontario," said Doug Turnbull, Chair of FSRA’s Board of Directors.

Mr. Ritchie previously served on the expert panel that laid the groundwork for an enhanced financial services regulator that became FSRA and later joined FSRA’s inaugural Board of Directors when the organization was first established. His deep experience in governance, regulatory policy, and adjudication will further strengthen FSRA’s oversight of Ontario’s financial services sectors and support its mission to protect consumers, enhance public confidence, and foster a strong, fair, and dynamic marketplace.
