Consumers Beware: This business is not incorporated as a credit union in Ontario

The Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA) is warning consumers that “Vaughan Credit Union” is not incorporated in Ontario as a credit union under the Credit Unions and Caisses Populaires Act, 2020 (CUCPA) and is not authorized to operate as a credit union in Ontario. 

Under Ontario law, only corporations incorporated as credit unions under CUCPA are permitted to use the term “credit union” in their name. 

We encourage you to exercise caution when interacting with financial services providers, including organizations claiming to be credit unions.

Please note that entities that are not incorporated under the CUCPA are not subject to regulatory oversight by FSRA and deposits made with such entities are not protected by FSRA’s deposit insurance framework.

Deposit insurance helps protect the eligible deposits of consumers using the services of credit unions and caisses populaires. It also helps ensure the safety and soundness of Ontario’s credit union sector.
