Attention mortgage agents, brokers, PBs, DOPs: FSRA launching new process for criminal record checks on September 18

The Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA) is changing its licensing processes for criminal record checks to ensure the processes remain up to date.

As of September 18, new licence applicants will be required to complete their criminal record checks through FSRA’s approved vendor Triton. A fee of $19.15 applies for Triton’s service.

If you are currently licensed as an agent or broker, you may need to complete a criminal record check after applying to renew, transfer or upgrade your licence.

FSRA will notify you if this is required after you submit the application. Monitor your email for further instructions from FSRA’s licensing team to complete the process.

Mortgage brokerage and administrator applications

In addition, directors and officers will be required to complete a background check when applying for a brokerage or administrator licence.

Criminal record checks are part of FSRA’s rigorous licence qualification process to protect consumers by ensuring only suitable people sell or offer financial products and services in Ontario.
