Details of new background check
Who needs to complete the background check?
All new licensing applicants need to complete their criminal record check through our approved vendor, Triton.
Note: for general insurance agent applicants, FSRA will accept a valid criminal record and judicial matters check completed by the sponsoring company within the last 90 days.
Certain renewal or reinstatement applicants, where the applicant has past or current criminal charges and/or convictions, or other suitability concerns.
Where do I go to complete the background check?
New applicants will receive a direct link to Triton’s website during the application process.
If required, renewal and/or reinstatement applicants will receive a link in an email from a FSRA staff member to complete a background check.
The link will take you to Triton’s website to follow a step-by-step process to complete the background check.
What happens if I have any issues completing the background check, or I receive an error and/or incomplete result?
Please reach out to Triton’s customer service, who are available to assist between regular business hours.
How much does it cost to complete the criminal record check through Triton?
$19.15
Do I get a copy of the results? How long does it take to receive a copy?
You will receive a copy of the results, as well as an invoice within 1 business day.
How long is the background check valid for?
FSRA will accept background checks completed in the 90 days leading up to your application. Checks completed over 90 days ago are not valid.
What type of background check is conducted by Triton?
The background check is a criminal record and judicial matters check (CRJM). More information about record checks can be found on the provincial government’s website.
What do I do when I’ve finished the background check:
For new applicants, you will return to complete your FSRA application.
To complete FSRA’s application process, you will need to provide the 8-digit confirmation number found on your Triton invoice, and the date the background check was completed.
Note: If you are completing your application through FSRA’s Online Services Portal, you will need to upload a copy of the Triton invoice confirmation along with your application and any other required documents.
