FSRA launches consumer education campaign on private mortgages

The Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA) is launching a new consumer education campaign designed to inform and protect those who are considering an alternative or private mortgage.

Alternative or private mortgages typically have different terms from traditional mortgages, and consumers need to know what questions to ask before making a commitment.

The campaign will help ensure consumers:

  • get good advice
  • know their options, and
  • get a mortgage product that is right for them and their family

FSRA does not want to see people getting locked into a mortgage with payments and fees they cannot afford. The campaign will be in market until March 31, 2024.
